Golden Corral Menu Prices

The Golden Corral is a family steak buffet restaurant. It’s not purely a buffet; they offer numerous cold and hot dishes. The company is privately owned and has units in nearly every state. The Golden Corral’s history isn’t a pleasant one. On more than one occasion, they have been linked to serious outbreaks of illnesses, including Salmonella and Norovirus. To make matters worse, there have been allegations backed by video evidence of improper food handling. But, the story isn’t all bad. They have also been known to sponsor veteran events, along with other philanthropy causes. Though marred with stains from the outbreaks and food handling fiascos, the Golden Corral continues to operate and attract patrons.

A Little History

After many failed tries at a successful franchise with other companies, James Maynard and William F. Carl, came up with the idea for the Golden Corral. In 1973, the first Golden Corral opened in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Since that time, about five hundred stores have been opened across the nation, both company-owned and franchises. In 1991, they opened the first “metro market” stores, which were much larger than the old ones. This included adding the Brass Bell Bakery, which rings a brass bell every time new bread comes out of the oven. Since then, the company has faced setbacks, yet keeps on pushing forward.

Golden Corral Menu

They offer lunch and dinner. The buffet is their main attraction, offering a nice selection of American favorites for one set price. Favorites include grilled steak, pizza, rotisserie chicken, yeast rolls, pot roast, carrot cake, bourbon street chicken, mashed potatoes, meatloaf, and fried chicken. They carry a line of no sugar added dietary desert buffet items, such as blueberry pie, chocolate pudding, peach pie, strawberry cheesecake, vanilla non-fat frozen yogurt, mocha cake, peanut butter fudge ice cream, and pistachio pudding. They also have an extensive salad and side bar. They carry food sides and other main buffet items, such as BBQ baked beans, beef taco meat, green beans and many other bean sides, numerous flavors of chicken wings, grilled orange mandarin chicken, pulled BBQ chicken, sweet and sour chicken, baked fish, different kinds of corn on the cob, hush puppies, grilled ham steaks, different types of meatballs, numerous pastas, spaghetti, battered onion rings, mushrooms, home fries, baked cottage, flounder, shrimp, along with many other options. The menu is so vast that its no wonder they have been able to stay afloat, even amongst intense controversy.

Golden Corral Is Well Known For…

The large buffet! People come there for the buffet items and leave with full stomachs. The list above is hardly exhaustive. But, they are also well known for a few different events. In 2003, a Georgia Golden Corral was linked to a serious salmonella outbreak. Twenty-three people were sickened, and the virus was found in the water drain. In 2012, a Wyoming Golden Corral was linked to an outbreak of Norovirus, which infected over three hundred people before it was over. Yet, the Golden Corral marches on. People continue to show up and enjoy their buffet, so there is no reason you shouldn’t give them a chance. After all, we shouldn’t judge them too harshly over two isolated restaurants that suffered from poor management.
